‘Breathing room’ is a state of mind more than a place. Bonnie Myotai Treace, Sensei, says, ‘If you are free, it doesn’t matter where you put the furniture’.

Individual Therapy

Figuring out how to lead the life that you want to live can be challenging sometimes. In session, we explore your goals based on your values, to help you get clear about who you are and what you want. Psychoeducation, such as learning more about trauma and the nervous system, can often be helpful to clients and I weave this throughout the work I do with clients.  Humor is a big part of my orientation as a therapist and a healing modality often overlooked.  I work in larger systems as well, helping to pair you with community resources and connecting with other practitioners you may be using such as acupuncturists, massage therapists, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, shamans, and mentoring programs.

Brainspotting

"Where you look affects how you feel" is an oft used quote to introduce folks who are new to the concept of Brainspotting (BSP).

From Brainspotting.com:

"Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain."

Family Therapy

I see family therapy as an opportunity to help an integrated system of people work through difficulties and move forward in a more connected and open way. I like to bring a balance of  support and challenge to help members show up fully and authentically in the family. I support families working with issues around motivation, failure to launch, depression, anxiety, substance use.

"Nontraditional" Couples or Systems work

What does "nontraditional" mean in this context? I have worked with bandmates, roommates, co-workers and friends who are struggling to communicate effectively with other.  Often, we get stuck in our patterns of relating to each other and it can be helpful to have another person to reflect our words back to us and help us get clear about what our priorities and values in relationship are.
